My career goal
October 27, 2009
My career goal is working at Kotra and getting a position as high as possible. There are two reasons why I want to work there. First, I’m very interested in trading with foreign countries. I chose my major for economics because I thought it’ll be helpful to work for trading company. Actually, international commerce is better than economics in trading. However I could learn whole economic theories in economics, and it gave me wide vision to see the world economy. It’ll be very helpful for me because I will need to know those theories when I work at Kotra. Therefore, I want to say I’ve prepared to work since I chose my major. The other reason why I’d like to work to at Kotra is I hope to help Korea. Kotra belongs to the Korean government, so if I’m a good worker there, it’s a way to help Korea. Korea doesn’t have natural resources, so import and export are very important to Korea. I guess a public company is better to achieve my goal, so I think Kotra is perfect for my career. To sum up, I really want to work at Kotra, and there are two perfect reasons. I’ll do my best then achieve my goal at Kotra with all my abilities.

China
The article “China Powers Ahead in Green Technologies” (Voice of America 10/8/09), by Laurel Bowman, explains a growing green movement is progressive in China’s industries. According to this article, “In the next decade, China believes it can match Europe by producing a fifth of its energy needs from renewable sources. China is striving to become a clean energy superpower, even as the United States moves to do the same.” China is interesting country for me because my favorite subject was history when I was in high school. Historically, China had the highest civilization in the world before Industry Revolution and China had an effect on Korea and Japan. However, after World War 2 the international prestige was changed. Japan is the most famous country in Asia on the other hand China is poor country even though it has a huge territory. Of course nobody ignores China because of their resource and population. Anyway China, Japan and Korea were connected with history for long time ago. As a result, they don’t like each other, and it’s not good for them. I appreciate the good news in China, and hope the three countries have good relationship.

Paragraph #6
Advantages of the Oldest Child
The oldest child in a family has some advantages over the second or third child. First of all, parents will take care of the oldest child because he (or she) is their first child. They might not know about raising a child, so they’ll make some mistaking. Therefore the parents should take care of the oldest child more than the other children. The second advantage that the oldest child has he (or she) can get new things. For example, the oldest child will get many clothes, shoes and so on. However, the other children won’t get those because they can use the used clothes and shoes. It looks unfair, but it helps parent’s economic state. Finally, the oldest child can be a responsible person. Generally, parents want the oldest child leads his (or her) younger brothers or sisters. It doesn’t look a advantage, but it helps him (or her) to be a responsible person. The oldest child will have more experience before other children, so he (or she) can give some advice to his (or her) younger brothers or sisters. In short, the oldest child has some advantage over the other children, so he (or she) can be a better person.

- I improved my grammar especially “prefix”. I studied that for the today’s test, sometimes test helps to study.
- The important of competition. I’ve never won the competitions to avoid the study log in class. I think competition makes students being crazy. I was scared. I prefer to do the study log.
- Article. The rules of article are easy, but I’m still confused. I’ll study more on weekend.
- Sometimes, I think it’ll be better if you teach us by yourself when we study about grammar. Your style is very good. I love it. However, sometimes it isn’t enough for me. You know what I’m saying? I hope so, and remember. I don’t blame you. Please don’t be at cross-purposes.

About Economics
The article “World Bank, IMF Officials Meet in Turkey” (Voice of America 10/2/09), by Dorian Jones, explains the meeting that is World Bank and IMF in Turkey, for talks the world economic trouble and recovery. The World Bank chief Robert Zoellick said “We’ve broken the fall of the financial crisis, but it is certainly too early to declare success, 2009 will continue to be a difficult year, and 2010 when much of the stimulus action will run out, remains highly uncertain economic year.” What I feel while I was reading this article, economy is really funny. Someday as I told, my major is Economics, and I like mine. However, sometimes I feel anxious because there isn’t a correct answer. There is too much fluency, so nobody can predict exactly. On the other hand, many economists study about economics even though they can’t correctly explain. Therefore if someone advances a new theory to solve the economy problem, he can be very famous such as John Maynard Keynes. It’s an one of my goals to be like Keynes. Someday, I hope to leave my mark in my field.

My First Time in Virginia
My first time airplane travel was coming to Virginia. When I arrived at Washington Dulles airport, I was disappointed because I really respect a huge and beautiful America airport. However Inchun airport in Korea is much better than Dulles airport. I wasn’t used to small airport different with in my imagine. At that time, I wasn’t used to speaking English, so I couldn’t ask to American where I can find my luggage and find an exit. Now, I have been here over than 1 year. However I’m not still used to speaking English and living in here. First of all, I don’t speak English except in class even though I’m here for English studying. I’m afraid of speaking with Native American. Second what I’m not used to is livilg in America. American food and enviroment make me hard for living here. Food is too salt or sweet, so I’m used to buying or cooking Korean food. However Korean food is very expensive in here. Futhermore, I have to drive a car when I need to go some places. It’s not very used to me. On the other hand, I’m used to something now such as leaving a tip, writing in English. I’m going to go back to Korea after this semester. I think I’ll miss America life even though I wasn’t used to living in America.

The Korean Rules
I want to give you a piece of advice if you visit to Korea. Most of all, you should know Korea was very developed in short time. Therefore, it’s so hard to understand Korea. At first, if you go to an old market, maybe there aren’t price tags. You can deal with owner. However, you should be careful. They will be more demanding of money than Korean. Second, if you have a drinking party with young people, you had better drinking alcohol as much as possible. They like to get drunk together. After the party, you may not have to pay. They will pay with pleasure because you’re a foreigner and visitor. Finally, when you visit a family, and if there are old people, you should be polite. Of course they know you don’t know about Korean culture, but if you keep the general manner, they’ll like you very much.
